Lebanon, N.H. June 15, 2004. Manufacturing
engineers at a leading steel plant are using a large-bore magnetic
encoder with large, heavy duty motors to provide high resolution, speed
and position sensing in the extreme heat and harsh environment of the
mill. The new magnetic encoders more than doubled the
operating life of the optical encoders they replaced, according to the
magnetic encoder designer and manufacturer, Admotec Inc. of Lebanon,
N.H.

The large-bore magnetic encoder, a
custom version of Admotec’s K Series, incorporates an
insert-molded large bore magnetic encoder wheel and magnetoresistive
chip sensor, designed to the demanding specifications of the
application. The encoder produces resolution up to 7200 cpr
with a large (up to 2 mm) wheel/sensor gap. Available with
wheels from 10 mm (1/2 in) to 250 mm (10 in), K Series magnetic
encoders offer a virtually unlimited choice of wheel size and
resolution. Custom encoders can also be designed for special
requirements.
The large-bore magnetic K Series
encoders are used in steel, paper and textile mill applications as well
as in harsh industrial environments including shock, vibration,
sawdust, oil, grease, salt spray and excessive moisture.
